Conditions and Treatments

Pain, discomfort, disturbed functioning of our body is a sign of our body not coping with the demands we make on it.

Osteopathy is an established, recognised system of diagnosis, treatment, prevention and rehabilitation which lays its main emphasis on the structural, functional integrity of the body. Viewing the body as a whole unit, the following will be taken into account: posture, muscle tone, flexibility, nutrition, circulation and stress.

Ron Marx combines a range of osteopathic techniques including soft tissue massage, gentle mobilisation, cranial and functional technique as well as acupuncture to assist the natural healing of the body and to reduce pain and malfunction.

As an experienced osteopath, Ron will assess and explain the possible cause and source of your pain and discuss with you how best to proceed.

Back pain (especially lower back pain) is the commonest complaint of people visiting an osteopath. There are several causes of this common condition including muscle or ligament strain, joint or other soft tissue inflammation. A herniated disc can be the cause of back pain which may be accompanied with sciatica, pain radiating in the buttock and lower limb. In very rare cases, back pain maybe indicative of a more serious pathology.

Neck and shoulder pain is another condition often treated by osteopathy. Like back pain it may be a result of tissue damage or injury but is often caused by poor posture and stress.

Headaches that may be caused by neck and upper back issues that will often respond to osteopathic interventions, posture advice and exercise.

Sports injuries Osteopathy can help treat and rehabilitate many sports injuries as well as give advice on injury prevention.

Stress, anxiety and sleep problems A combination of osteopathic techniques and acupuncture or acupuncture on its own can be very effective in helping relieve the effects of life’s stresses on our body and mind. Acupuncture can often break the cycle of insomnia.

Ron has a special interest in office-based ergonomics. There are many physical symptoms that arise from the way many of us work at our computers. Ron can advise his patients as how best to avoid problems arising from poor posture at work.
